What’s in a Review?

Some of you may be wondering what exactly we’re on about when we ask for a ‘review’.

Really all we want to know is what YOU thought of the event that you went to. This could be what interested you, what impressed you, what you thought was rubbish, or just how it made you feel. Perhaps the staff were rude to you; perhaps the food was great; maybe it reminded you of something that happened to you years ago.

Each experience will be made up of different aspects that you can take into consideration. For example, if you went to the theatre perhaps you could talk about what the acting was like; how the stage was used; did you sympathise with the characters?
If you’ve been to see a film, you could think about how the music was used; was the story convincing?; was the twist really obvious?

And always remember why it is you’re reviewing something – do you want to convince people to go and see it, or not to bother?

If you’re stuck, you can email me at jess@mcin.net, or give me a ring and we’ll help you out – 0161 230 4130

Whatever it is, we just want to know what your experience was. You can write about it, record it as a podcast, or film yourself talking about it. Or anything else that gets it online!
And don’t worry about it not sounding like ‘proper’ journalism – that’s the whole point! We just want the world to know what you think, and the more it sounds like it comes from the heart – not from years of journalism training – the better.
